DAN FOWLER

"Smilin' Dan, the Rawhide Man"

Hines, Oregon 541-589-0377

Growing up in northern Nevada on Ranches in Golconda, Nv...and riding the high desert gathering and branding calves in his youth.....he had promised himself that if he could get out of moving cattle across the Humboldt river every spring, through the ice and snow, he would leave and not come back ..He does, though....during the Ranch Hand Rodeo in Winnemucca, Nv. every March.. You can also find him at the Jordon Valley Big Loop every year...

He and his wife Judy, make their home at the end of a dead end road out side of Hines, Ore...where they are very much enjoying life and each other.

Dan has the quiet demeanor of a person who is very much in touch with life and all that he holds dear...and that includes braiding rawhide into some very coveted pieces of art...His rawhide reins and romals are extraordinary, as are his step by step bosals...The traditional sizes from starting a colt, to the under bridle bosal....

Some with Kangaroo nose bands and others with the conventional rawhide strings...some with color, and the others with the old style rawhide...

Some people have said that Dan's work will be collectors items someday...A person can certainly see the time and perfection he puts into his work...

To look at his work, through the eye of knowledge, one can certainly see the origin of the California Vaquero, and its working traditions.......
